Our Journey to Impact at Zoom

We have organized our ESG efforts into themes where we have the largest responsibility to stakeholders and can achieve the greatest impact.

“As a company, Zoom strives to make our customers happy in every interaction, with every product, and across every country,” said Eric S. Yuan, Zoom’s founder and CEO. “But we’re only able to offer that level of service because we’re able to provide a productive, inspiring work environment for our employees, managers, and executives. The best employees are happy employees, and Zoom has the best around.”

We take great pride in providing our employees a fun yet productive culture, an open work environment, and highly competitive workplace benefits. Our Happy Crew, comprised of nearly 200 volunteer employees, is dedicated to promoting Zoom’s core values of care and happiness and creating long-lasting bonds among employees across the organization.

We are thrilled that our employees have named Zoom among the winners of Glassdoor’s Employees’ Choice Awards honoring the Best Places to Work in 2021! Learn more about Life at Zoom here.

We are also equally committed to making diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) central to Zoom’s culture and organization as it is a critical embodiment of our core value of care. In June 2020, we hired our first Chief Diversity Officer, Damien Hooper-Campbell, to lead our DEI function globally. By making the strategic decision to have our University Recruiting Team report into DEI, we've taken steps to diversify our candidate outreach through engagements with AfroTech, Merritt College, AnitaB.org and a five-year strategic partnership with Claflin University.

In our workplace, we launched our Zoom Talks initiative which included a nine-part series entitled Race in the Workplace, to foster an open space for our employees to learn more about each other's unique backgrounds.

In addition, we also launched our inaugural Employee Resource Group (ERG) program with a focus on Black, Latinx, Women's, Veterans, and LGBTQ+ communities.

Our value of care is the foundation for the empathy and vulnerability needed to drive a meaningful DEI effort. This is everyone’s responsibility and we strive to make Zoom an innovator in this area to build a stronger platform, culture, and community.

Zoom is a platform for everyone, connecting doctors with patients; teachers with students; businesses with consumers; and colleagues, teammates, friends and family everywhere.

We feel privileged to be the video communications platform of choice for hundreds of millions of daily meeting participants. Our DEI Team continues to partner with teams leading our product design and marketing to invest in making our products even more inclusive and accessible to the diverse set of communities we serve. We have been working diligently in web accessibility to make Zoom as A11Y-friendly as possible with product features that will help diverse communities connect better.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, we provided our education service to over 125,000 education domains in 25 countries for free to help students stay connected, safe and learning. We also provided training and resources to help more than 35,000 educators teach remotely on Zoom during the pandemic with Zoom Summer Academy.

We are excited about Zoom Cares, our philanthropic program that strives to make a positive impact on our local and global communities by leveraging charitable funding, technology, our passionate employees, policy advocacy, and our voice to support education and social equity.

In 2020, we formed partnerships with the Association for the Study of African American Life & History, Equal Justice Initiative, and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. Our work in this space is ongoing, and includes our own diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts.

We believe high-quality education is a fundamental right, and crucial for a bright future. In fall 2020, we invested over $1.5M in remote learning grants to organizations supporting education in under-resourced communities.

Zoom Cares places the power of change into the hands of our employees through volunteerism as well as our WePledge and matching gift program. In late 2020, we launched our EdInnovation Awards — an open invitation to education leaders across the globe to submit their best, most ambitious ideas for improving student outcomes. In March 2021, we announced the six recipients of our EdInnovation Awards, who received a combined $1 million in grant funding, plus Zoom technology and support. This program is part of our ongoing commitment to supporting education.

Zoom believes in caring for our environment. We estimate that by enabling millions of users to work from home during the COVID-19 pandemic, our platform helped our customers reduce their CO2 emissions by more than 55 million metric tons in 2020 - roughly equal to taking 11 million cars off the road.

Our sustainability program is also designed to achieve a direct positive impact on the environment, and considers range of workplace initiatives to mitigate climate change and address other pressing environmental issues.

As COVID-19 forced our employees around the world to quickly adapt to working remotely, we took the opportunity to reimagine our real estate needs with an emphasis on safety and sustainability. We are looking at our global operational footprint to identify areas for sustainability and engaging our employees in sustainability initiatives, such as energy conservation and waste reduction.

At Zoom, Trust is an integral part of our values and culture. Embedded in trust is privacy, security, and compliant and ethical business conduct, which are top of mind for Zoom. To help safeguard our users’ information, we’ve taken important steps designed to optimize our platform’s security, increase data protection, and ensure compliance.

Zoom is dedicated to being a platform you can trust. Whether it’s the new Trust Center or the expansion of our end-to-end encryption (E2EE) feature — which can now support meetings of up to 1,000 attendees — we’re continually evolving our safety, security, and privacy efforts. We’re committed to making the Zoom experience seamless, safe, and secure for every user.

We’ve improved existing meeting features that help users manage their meeting privacy and security, including passcodes and Waiting Rooms on by default, limited screen sharing, Report a User, and Suspend Participant Activities. Last fall, Zoom introduced an At-Risk Meeting Notifier tool, designed to proactively identify any issues with meeting privacy and notify the account owner.

Zoom is committed to ethical and compliant business practices and good corporate governance for the long-term success of our company and investors. Please visit our Legal & Compliance Center for more information, including our Code of Business Conduct & Ethics.

We are focused on delivering happiness to and caring for our communities, customers, company, teammates, and selves. As we continue to expand our ESG efforts and execute on our values, we will share more about our initiatives to benefit our people, community, and environment.
